It seems like each character on the new CW series STAR-CROSSED has a secret. In the case of Drake (Greg Finley), he finds himself having to hide a blossoming love affair. Maybe love is just contagious across the universe, but the Atrians are certainly not immune to it. After 10 years living amongst the humans has taught the Atrians one distinct lesson: humans are not all that much more different than them. In fact, outside of all those tattoos, humans and Atrians look a lot a like. It is any wonder then that Cupid’s arrow may strike both equally?
Drake may not have thought he could ever fall in love with a human, but to his great surprise, he does. Knowing full well that his fellow Atrians are not going to welcome a cross-species romance, Drake hides his love as a great secret. But what is a boy to do when the girl he loves may reciprocate those forbidden feelings?
In an exclusive interview from the set, star Greg Finley teased a bit about Drake’s epic love, Drake’s rocky past with the Trags, and how Drake may just be the Mercutio in this “Romeo and Juliet” tale:
It is interesting that right away, STAR-CROSSED establishes Drake as more of a lover than a fighter. With his dark past with the Trags, a rebel force within the Atrians, one would naturally assume that Drake would be quick to forsake any tender feelings. But love is a powerful persuader, and Drake is soon under its spell. Just what draws Drake’s eye? The fact that the girl he notices is not afraid of him. She is just as confident and secure in her position and power. She is an alpha, like he is, and they innately recognize and appreciate the similar qualities in each other.
Drake may come from a warrior tribe amongst the Atrians, but his real strengths lie in the fact that he is hard-headed and confident in who he is and what he wants. He has no fear, which Greg laughingly admitted is what gets Drake into a bit of trouble at times.
Fortunately, with the steadfast friendship of Roman (Matt Lanter) and the surprising support of the girl he loves, Drake thrives as the Atrians and humans try to come together and integrate their cultures. Now if only all the other stubborn and fearful Atrians could appreciate the humans as much as Drake does.
